

"Nelegal" ("The Illegal") is a road movie drama that tells the story of Nurbek, a 19-year-old who illegally travels to Yakutia in search of his father, aiming to fulfill his late mother's last wish. The film addresses important social issues such as human trafficking, nationalism, state crime, and the black market . It was directed by Dmitry Davydov and premiered on May 12, 2022.
To make this story understandable and close to viewers from all over the world, Dmitry uses the motifs of ancient Greek literature. For example, the myth of Ulysses and his son Telemachus or the biblical parable of the prodigal son. In the film, you can hear dialogues in Russian, Yakut, Kyrgyz, Chinese, and Armenian languages. Humor is present throughout the entire film, adding a light-hearted touch to the story. In addition to social issues within society, the portrayal of nature plays a significant role for Dmitry in the film.


The Olonkho Theatre was founded in 2008 by People's Artist of Russia Stepanida Ilinichna Borisova and Honored Artist of Russia Andrei Savvich Borisov. The theater's troupe consists of 58 actors. All actors possess the skill of an epic word and traditional singing called kylysakh. In addition to actors, the theater also employs ten Olonkho performers ranging in age from 35 to 85 years old.
The main focus for actors of the Olonkho Theater is the development of their vocal abilities for singing toyuks, which is a traditional song genre of the Yakut people. Improvisation and entering a state of trance are also crucial aspects for the actors of the Olonkho Theater. The performances are accompanied by live music, and the speeches of the characters are sung in a unique tonality for each character. The performance "Dyrybyna Dyrylyatta" by the theater received three nominations at the prestigious Golden Mask Awards in 2018. The performance took place on the main stage of the A.S. Pushkin Theater in Moscow.

It shows places that every Nizhny Novgorod resident would recognize and local memes they would understand: the Spit of Nizhny Novgorod, located at the confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers, the famous shawarma, traditional wooden architecture, stories of local programmers and workers of GAZ automotive manufacturer. The film consists of 8 sketches of things to be proud of in the city right now.
